Evansville, IN Rye Grass Mowing Plan
Mowing Schedule
For Rye grass in Evansville, IN, the below schedule of mowing heights is recommended.
For the best results, mow your lawn at the higher end of the recommended height range for Rye more frequently, versus doing very low cuts. This will help to keep your lawn healthy and prevent weeds from growing. Going lower than the recommended height can cause your lawn to thin out and become more susceptible to weeds and disease, and can also cause your lawn to turn brown.
Spring (March, April, May)
For your first mowing of the season, set your mower to 2.5", which helps clean out dead grass and leaves, and stimulate growth.
For all other Spring mowings, set your mower to 3" high. Better to have more leaf surface to grab more sunlight during these shorter days.
Summer (June, July, August)
Recommended mowing height: 3.5". Longer grass blades shade the root system during summer heat.
Fall (September, October, November)
Recommended mowing height: 3". This will stimulate more root growth.
For the last mowing of the season, set your mower to 2.5". The shorter lawn over winter will cut down on winter kill.
